Jackson County Sheriff: ICE agreement, jail transfers and license-plate reader sharing

This request asks the Jackson County Office of the Sheriff for any change to its March 19, 2025 Warrant Service Officer agreement with ICE and records of the agreement's review meetings; monthly jail counts since then of people released into ICE custody and of ICE detainers and administrative warrants received; and its license-plate reader contracts, retention and data-sharing settings, a six-month log of searches by federal agencies or for immigration reasons, and emails with DHS addresses about the cameras.

Why it matters
A Warrant Service Officer agreement is one of ICE's 287(g) models: it lets trained local officers serve ICE administrative warrants on people already in the jail. These records would show how often the agreement is used, and whether federal immigration agencies can search the Sheriff's license-plate data.

The law and its timing
Filed under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act (MCL 15.231 et seq.). Michigan's FOIA gives a public body 5 business days after it receives a request to respond, and allows one extension of up to 10 business days (MCL 15.235(2)). This site counts every request the same way, in business days from filing, and does not decide whether a deadline was missed.
