When identity proof is required and how to fix a problem

This request asks for the current USCIS FOIA/PA Branch instructions on when proof of identity is required for a FOIA request, including requests for agency records that are not about a person. It also asks for the steps a requester can take to fix an identity problem before the request is closed.

Why it matters
People must sometimes prove who they are to get records. These instructions would show when that is required and how a problem can be fixed.

Extension invoked
USCIS told the requester it would invoke the 10-working-day "unusual circumstances" extension the law allows (5 U.S.C. 552(a)(6)(B)). What an extension means
